How we help you get the best fit when selecting a running or walking shoe.
At Tryathletics, we are all runners ourselves and know how important shoes can be. We rely on experience and a hands-on approach to help guide you through the process of picking the best fit. Our staff will assist you by examining wear patterns of previous shoes, assessing injuries, making shoe suggestions based on your running and running shoe history, and helping determine fit.
Some tips and general information and advice to consider when buying a new shoe from Tryathletics–
- When purchasing running shoes you should allow plenty of time for the fitting. We always encourage customers to try a few pair on to compare fit and feel, and to run a few steps on our treadmill or through our parking lot.
- Running shoes are typically a half to a full size shorter than dress shoes. In other words, if you are an 8 in a dress shoe, you likely will be an 8 ½ or 9 in a running shoe.
- More tips about sizing - your feet will get longer and wider as you age. Also, ladies feet will often be longer after the birth of a child. So don't put too much stock in what size/width you have worn in the past, your feet may have changed. People often buy shoes too short and/or too narrow.
- Just because so-and-so likes a shoe doesn’t mean it’s the best for you! We are all bio-mechanically different and another person’s needs may not be the same as yours.
- Running shoes range in price from $80 to $150 with most falling in the $90-$100 range.
- If your current shoe is working (no excessive wear; no discomfort or pain) we suggest that you continue with the brand. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
- We offer women’s shoes in sizes 5-12 and men’s shoes in sizes 7-16, with many narrow and wide widths available.
- Rotating two or more pair of shoes can reduce the risk of injury, extend the lifespan of shoes, and give you increased flexibility to use different types of shoes for different types of runs. If you are running more than 40 miles per week or typically running several days in a row, a second or third shoe might be worth considering. (Note – we always offer 10% off if buying two or more pair at the same time)
- Special orders are welcome! If we don’t have exactly what you’re looking for, we are more than happy to get it!
